The Journey Home Festival had its start in 2017 with the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Gambia unofficially known as SeneGambia.  Founders Den Tut Rayay (Arall Charles) and Saqar Ahhah Ahershu (Amir James) had a successful meeting with His Excellency President Adama BARROW for the Republic of Gambia, the late Honorable Abdoulie Bah Lord Mayor for the City of Banjul, The Gambia and later meeting the Director General Dr. Malick DIOP and Foreign Affairs Advisor DIOP Moustapha Sokhna for the Republic of Senegal regarding the blessings from government for the implementation of the Annual Festival.

These dialogues lead to the First Annual festival being held in Atlanta Georgia USA in which SeneGambian entrepreneurs and delegates like the first Senegalese female Candidate for President of the Republic of Senegal Her Excellence Diouma Dieng Diakhate traveled to Atlanta Georgia for an immersive sit down with investors and Elected officials like Honorable Debra Jackson Mayor the City of Lithonia, GA USA and Honorable Jason Lary for the City of Stonecrest, GA USA including Diane Daniels Adoma City Councilwoman for the City of Stonecrest, GA USA.
